Last project!!

After all these days experimenting and studying from home I have to say that you all have done it very well.

Apparently, we are not going to see each other until next year, in year 5.

So I encourage all of you to do the last project about the Layers of the Atmosphere

Layers of the atmosphere

Now that we have studied the water cycle and we know where the water goes once it is evaporated..... It is time to study the layers of the Earth.... the Atmosphere!!!

The atmosphere is an enormous layer of gases that surrounds the Earth. It has 3main functions:

1.  It protects living things from sun rays

2. Keeps the air that plants produce inside the planet so living things can breathe and survive

3. Burns meteoroids from the space so they cannot enter in our Planet

This very special layer of gases is very thick and is formed by different gases:

Interactive worksheet 1

We are going to try this interactive worksheet.

The only thing you need to do is to drag the answers to the correct place and once you finish, you have two options: 1st check if everything is correct or not
2nd send the results to me: you need to write your name, year 4 and send to the teacher: santamartabilingual@gmail.com

Good luck!!

The Atmosphere Protects Us, an interactive worksheet by The_Dean

Deadline: June 5th

Project

Time to make it!!!

We are going to make the different layers of the atmosphere

This is what I would like you to do:

If you need some help to do it, I recommend you to watch this video.

Materials:

Papers or cardboard
Crayons
Pencil
Black marker
Scissors

I hope you like it!!!

Do not forget to send me your works: santamartabilingual@gmail.com

Deadline: JUNE 19th

Salty ocean... fresh rivers

Have you enjoyed the water cycle? I hope so

Now... I have another question for you....... In the water cycle.... it is very important to collect water in seas, oceans, lakes or rivers...

Have you ever wondered why seas and oceans are salty? Have you ever wondered why rivers have fresh water (not salty)?

I recommend you to watch this video:

Time to experiment!!

As we are scientists, we need to check  that what we are watching is true or not.

Materials:

- salt
- a bowl
- plastic wrap
- warm water
- teaspoon

Procedure:

1 Dissolve salt in the bowl of warm water until you get a solution. (Solution is salty water. You do not see the salt in the water but the salt is in the water)

2 Taste the solution to confirm that you have salty water  (to confirm that water is salty enough ).

3 Cover the bowl with the plastic warp and set it aside in a warm place.

4 After a while you should see tiny drops of water on the plastic cover

5 Remove the plastic carefully and taste the water on the plastic

Do not forget to follow the scientific method!!!!!

Once you finish with the previous experiment I would like you to do the next one:

Set the SAME bowl aside without the cover for a few days until all the water has evaporated.

The separation of a dissolved substances from a liquid by means of evaporation is known as crystallisation

What happened in the second experiment?

Send me your scientific methods and pictures and... videos explaining the process ( not compulsory) to santamartabilingual@gmail.com

Good luck!!!

Deadline: 1st June

Playing with molecules!

Hello students!!!

I have checked your works and they are great!! I love them. Keep on working because you are doing it very well. CONGRATULATIONS

The lockdown does not allow us to see each other in class but we can go on with experiments and investigations.

Do you remember when we were talking about molecules? When we were playing with molecules in class?

Everything is made up of matter (molecules) and we can find matter in three different states: solid, liquid and gas

Solid molecules are packed together
Liquid molecules are a little bit separated
Gas molecules are very much separated.

That is why we can take solids, but we cannot take  liquids and.... definitely...
we cannot take  any gas !!!

These are the three states of matter!!!

Do you remember what happened if the temperature of the matter (in water) changed?

Time to experiment!!

In the next experiment we are going to make a home-made water cycle.

MATERIALS:

. Plastic water bottle (or glass bottle) TRANSPARENT
.  Warm water
. Markers (It is better if they are permanent but if you do not have them, use the ones that you have)

PROCEDURE:

1. Take the transparent bottle and draw clouds , sun, water and land on the sides of the bottle.

2. Warm water and add the colouring food (if you do not have it, it is not essential) and them, pour it into the bottle

3. Close the bottle and place it by the window.

4. Wait for 2 or 3 days.

Do not forget to follow the scientific method!!!( with all the steps)

Activities: answer the questions:

. What is evaporation?

. Has the water inside the bottle evaporated? How do you know?

.What is condensation?

.Has the water inside the bottle condensed? How do you know?

. What is precipitation in the water cycle?

. Can we find the precipitation process in the bottle? How?

.What is melting?

. In the “real” water cycle.... could you please tell me an example where we can find “the melting process”?

. In the “real” water cycle... could you please tell me an example where we can find “the solidifying process”?

. What happens if the temperature changes in : evaporation, condensation , melting or solidifying?

You can do the activities in your notebook and them send them to me with the scientific method and some photos.

Deadline: May 15th

Also and ... this is not compulsory... you can send me a video with your presentation.

  I love your videos!!!!

Good luck to everyone!!!!

You are doing it great, so proud of you!

Classifying living things!!!

Hello students!!!

As the lockdown is going to take a while we need to keep on moving with our classes.

I would really like to be with you at school, but it is not possible by now.

Anyway, we can continue with the science book and also with a video that is going to help you . Also, if you have any problem with the understanding, please do not hesitate to contact me.

santamartabilingual@gmail.com

You  have all the information you need  in the science book.
Pages from 38 - 45

In order to understand how scientists classify the living things and why we need to classify them, I recommend you this video:

For this project I would like you to make a big poster introducing the 5 kingdoms

You can use  cardboard, some white papers together, etc...
You need to answer these questions in each kingdom (remember that I really like your words, I do not want you to copy anything, I want you to explain yourself)

1.- What is a kingdom? (plant kingdom/fungi Kingdom/ animal kingdom/ protista and monera kingdom)

2.- What are the main characteristics of each Kingdom? (Write 2 or 3 of them)

3.- Write  and draw some examples of organisms in each Kingdom (2 or 3)

4.- Interesting facts: Tell me something that you did not know before the project and now you do know

In order to do the project, you have two possibilities: You can choose ONE of them:

A) you can Write the information down in the poster

B) and this is not compulsory You can record a video introducing  your presentation and them send it to me .

Do not forget to write your name on the email, otherwise I do not know who you are
